Farnborough '08: Lockheed Unveils New C-130J Configurations, Features

Super Herc's Now Available In Special Ops, Air Combat Command Models

Lockheed Martin briefed reporters at the Farnborough International Airshow this week about new configurations and new technologies for the C-130J Super Hercules. Company officials provided details of the new HC-130J and MC-130J configurations, recently selected by the US Air Force to replace the aging fleets of both Air Combat Command and Special Operations Command aircraft. Additionally, three new technologies related to mission planning, mapping and GPS systems were also unveiled.

Engine Offered As Second Option For F-35 Lightning II

The GE Rolls-Royce Fighter Engine Team told attendees this week in Farnborough it recently completed Short Take Off, Vertical Landing (STOVL) testing on an F136 engine at GE testing facility at Peebles, OH. The team is developing the F136 as an alternative powerplant for all variants of the F-35 Lightning II aircraft for the US military and eight partner nations.

Lockheed Pitches F-22 To Global Audience

Lockheed Martin's F-22 Raptor air dominance fighter made its international air show debut outside North America earlier this week at the Royal International Air Tattoo, held at RAF Fairford. The US Air Force F-22 Aerial Demonstration Team put the aircraft through its paces Monday, demonstrating its capability.
