Welsh Calls Delivery Of 100th Airplane A 'Big Deal For The Air Force'
On the day that Lockheed-Martin delivered its 100th F-35 Lightning II joint strike fighter to the Air Force, the service’s leaders today marked the milestone and outlined the aircraft’s value. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Welsh III called the event “a big deal for the Air Force” during a Pentagon news conference.
Majority Of San Antonio Work To Be Shifted To New Center
Pratt & Whitney has opened its new F100 engine overhaul facility in Columbus, GA. The new 105,000-square-foot facility enhances Pratt & Whitney's capacity to service engines that power F-16 and F-15 fighter aircraft used by the U.S. Air Force and international military customers. Pratt & Whitney, the Development Authority of Columbus and Western Devcon Inc. worked together to develop, design and build the new facility.
At a ceremony attended by more than 2,000 employees and guests, Lockheed Martin celebrated the production of its 100th F-35 Lightning II. Defense leaders Gen. Robin Rand, Commander, Air Education and Training Command, Randolph Air Force Base, TX, and Brig. Gen. Michael Rothstein, Commander, 56th Fighter Wing, Luke AFB, AZ, joined the employees who build the F-35 for the celebration.
