CAF Provides Update On 'Rise Above' Mustang Incident

Red Tail Squadron Has Already Started The Process Of Relocating The Aircraft For Repair

As previously reported, the Commemorative Air Force’s P-51 Mustang Tuskegee Airmen had a runway excursion at Tallahassee International Airport on Thursday, November 4, in the afternoon around 2 p.m. Only the pilot was onboard, and no injuries were reported. The incident caused some damage to the left main landing gear, the left wing, and the propeller. The Red Tail Squadron already started the process of relocating the aircraft for repairs. They anticipate the Mustang will be back in the air by April. In the meantime; the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit will continue on with their tour.

Team Wins Navy's Competition Excellence Acquisition Team Of The Year Award

The Advanced Helicopter Training System (AHTS) Team, part of the Naval Undergraduate Flight Training Systems (PMA-273) Program Office at Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), was named the Navy's Competition Excellence Acquisition Team of the Year for its streamlined acquisition program to achieve Milestone C/Full Rate Production and four contract awards (three competed) in just a year and a half. “The AHTS team’s ability to execute an aggressive schedule while tailoring policies to fit our needs allowed us to save nearly $287 million for the Navy,” said Christina Hall, who accepted the award and served as the team’s deputy program manager at the time

Coast Guard Rescues Soggy Cherokee Pilot In Tampa Bay

"The Pilot Was Able To Use The Light On His Cell Phone To Signal To Us Where He Was..."

A Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg boat crew rescued a pilot from a small aircraft crash in the water three miles south of MacDill Air Force Base, Friday. The 29-foot Response Boat-Small boat crew transferred the pilot to EMS without medical concerns. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg were notified at 6:30 p.m. by Pinellas Fire and Rescue and diverted the boat crew from training, who recovered the pilot from the water. The Cherokee 180 plane is submerged and the owner will be working with commercial salvage for recovery. A hazard to navigation notice to mariners is being broadcasted on VHF radio channel 16.
