Left Wing of Mooney Takes A Serious Hit

There's Good Luck, Bad Luck and NO Luck At All... as recently proven by a Mooney that was forced to execute a deadstick landing on an East Bound lane of Florida's Interstate 75, Wednesday morning. A twitter post by FHP summed up the tragedy... "A small airplane made an emergency landing on EB I75 (?? Alley) @ 40 mm. Once landed, a pickup truck collided with the left wing of the plane. Thankfully no injuries. The EB right lane of I75 remains closed at this time." An engine failure downed the M20R Mooney over Broward County. The 2007 M20R Ovation 3 GX, N120GX, had two persons on board and executed a safe emergency landing on the right side of the road with no known damage as it came to a stop. Whew... right? A

EAA: Aviation Groups Seeking Further FAA COVID Relief

The Pandemic Continues to Wreak Havoc On The Aero-Verse

EAA notes that it was one of seven organizations who requested that the FAA grant pilots and flight instructors further extensions on meeting compliance deadlines pushed back by a SFAR published earlier this year. And a heckuva year it's been... so far. The joint effort, which included a letter to the Agency signed by the collaborating organizations, asked for continuing extensions to several currency items. Of particular relevance to EAA members was a request to continue medical extensions, noting difficulties in scheduling not just AMEs, but treating specialists during the pandemic.

Several Witnesses Heard The Pilot Make A Distress Call

On August 2, 2020, about 0839 mountain daylight time, a North American Navion airplane, N225HJ, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Cedar City, Utah. The pilot and pilot-rated passenger were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight. Preliminary radar data showed the airplane departed Strawberry Valley Estates Airport (UT24), Alton, Utah, about 0815. After departure, the airplane flew southwest bound before turning north where it continued to track for the remaining portion of the flight captured by surveillance data.
