Governor Otter: Community Airports "Play A Critical Role" In
The Lives Of Idaho Residents
Idaho Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter has declared
September “General Aviation Appreciation Month” in
Idaho. The proclamation was issued September 1 in the state capitol
of Boise. “The economic effect of general aviation in Idaho
is over $429 million,” the governor states in his official
proclamation, “and over 23,000 residents owe their jobs to
aviation in [this state].”
The FAA has approved a $6.19 million AIP grant for a taxiway
improvement project at Northeast Florida Regional Airport. The
award was announced late last week by House Transportation
Committee chair John Mica (R-FL).

Bringing A New Approach to The Age-Old Problem Of Teaching
Crosswind Landings
In the decades (yeesh, I'm getting old) that I've been flying as
a CFI, there are few skills more difficult to teach a new pilot
than dealing with the vagaries of a cross wind approach. It's a
tough skill to tutor because it takes so long to set up each
landing and there are a myriad of tasks to accomplish during each
takeoff and preparation for landing that the learning retention can
often take a dive. In really good conditions, a clear pattern, no
tower, and few distractions, you'd be lucky to get 5 or 6 landings
in each hour... and that is IF you can find the right conditions to
challenge
Flight Restrictions Over Much Of The Area Through
Wednesday
The FAA has updated the TFR in place for the United Nations
General Assembly to cover much of the metropolitan area through
Wednesday afternoon and evening.
