CiES Inc. is a Bend, Oregon-based designer and manufacturer of modular embedded aircraft systems and sensors. The company’s fuel-level senders have largely transformed—and bettered—fuel-management in general aviation aircraft. On 10 August 2023, CiES’s next-generation fuel-sender—which features dynamic damping, pitch-compensation, and expanded digital communication capabilities—was granted FAA TSO-C55a Approval.

Paying the Piper

On 17 August, Piper Aircraft announced its 2023 second-quarter (Q2) delivery and revenue figures. Across all metrics, the company’s performance surpassed 2022’s second-quarter—evincing stabilization of the general aviation aircraft market. Compared to Q2 2022, Piper’s aircraft deliveries increased by nearly 14-percent; revenues increased by upwards of 19-percent.

Economies of Synergy

Aspen Avionics, the Albuquerque-based avionics concern and maker of the popular Evolution Flight Display family of products, and Trio Avionics (The STC Group LLC), have announced the integration of Trio Pro Pilot autopilot and Aspen Avionics display packages for over a dozen aircraft models. The combined package(s) may be purchased from Aspen Avionics and Trio authorized dealers and start at $10,750 for the affordable Aspen Evolution E5 flight display and Trio Pro Pilot autopilot.

Engineering Approvals Streamlined

Established in 2009 and based at Denver’s Centennial Airport (APA), Peregrine is an engineering, certification, and manufacturing concern providing end-to-end FAA-approved STC solutions. In August 2023, the Federal Aviation Administration granted Peregrine Organization Designation Authorization (ODA), thereby allowing the company to process engineering approvals on a streamlined, expedited basis.

Hot Air Rises

The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) has addressed two initiatives broadly believed critical to the safe, timely, and successful integration of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) into the U.S. National Airspace System (NAS). Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) is defined, generally, as an air-transport system concept comprising new, transformational aircraft designs and flight technologies into existing and modified airspace operations. The NBAA’s comments—as informed by the Association’s AAM Roundtable and Emerging Technology Committee—provide direction to government agencies vis-à-vis proposals potentially impacting pilots, manufacturers, infrastructure developers, and other aerospace stakeholders.
