Karen Kalishek Announced As New NAFI Board Chair

Businesswoman And Flight Instructor Prepared To Take NAFI Forward Into The Future

The National Association of Flight Instructors announced their new board chair at AirVenture 2021: CFI and businesswoman Karen Kalishek. Elected by the NAFI Board of Directors, Kalishek will replace current chair Bob Meder when he steps down on January 1, 2022. Kalishek joined the NAFI board in March 2018. In the years that followed, she led NAFI toward increasing government and industry relations. "Having the opportunity to be a board member of this highly-respected and vital association in and of itself has been a privilege. Now, I am truly honored to take on this role and I appreciate the board's trust in me," Kalishek said.

Bye Aerospace Remains Contender In Electric Aircraft

Updates Projects, Announces New Products

Bye aerospace updated their efforts on the eFlyer and announced two new projects in the works. The eflyer II is the first electric powered aircraft certified under part 23 and is aimed primarily at flight schools. Bye Aerospace is no offering the G500TXi instrument panel in the newest aircraft. Bye aerospace announced the eFlyer IV, an 860 lb payload, 200 kt, 4 seat electric aircraft now in the design phase. Very few details were made available for this model or on the company website. Bye Aerospace also announced the eFlyer 800, a multi engine aircraft targeting the light twin market.

NTSB Prelim: Cessna 152

Local Flight Was To Take The Passenger, A Prospective Student Pilot, On A Discovery Flight

On June 29, 2021, about 1427 eastern daylight time, a Cessna 152, N25513, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident at Northeast Florida Regional Airport (SGJ), St. Augustine, Florida. The flight instructor and a passenger were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. The purpose of the local flight was to take the passenger, a prospective student pilot on a discovery flight. Preliminary radar data indicated the airplane departed SGJ at 1344 from runway 13. The airplane flew about 14 miles south, then returned to circle the city of St. Augustine, Florida, and finally flew north
