FAA Clears Path For Installation Of AOA Indicators In GA Aircraft

Design Approval Requirements Simplified By The Agency

The FAA has taken an important step to help improve safety in small aircraft by simplifying design approval requirements for a cockpit instrument called an angle of attack (AOA) indicator.  AOA devices, common on military and large civil aircraft, can be added to small planes to supplement airspeed indicators and stall warning systems, alerting pilots of a low airspeed condition before a dangerous aerodynamic stall occurs, especially during takeoff and landing.

Had Joined ICAO In 1953, Served As Secretary General For Six Years

Dr. Assad Kotaite, member and former council president to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), passed away on Feb. 27 at age 89. Kotaite joined ICAO in 1953 as a member of the Legal Committee, and served as Lebanon's council representative from 1956 to 1962, and again from 1965 until July 1970. He also held the positions of chairman of the Air Transport Committee; second vice president of the ICAO Council; member and vice chairman of the ICAO Finance Committee; and chairman of the Working Group on ICAO Financial Regulations.

FIT Aviation Programs Receive Five New Airplanes From Piper

Brings School's Total Fleet To 46 Aircraft

The flight training arm of Florida Institute of Technology is welcoming a shipment of five new airplanes. The aircraft delivered Feb. 21 are Piper Archer TX models with Garmin G1000 glass cockpit avionics systems. These aircraft bring the flight school’s fleet total to 46 aircraft overall and 13 of the type after the initial delivery of eight Archers in May of 2013.
