SAFE Delivers Presentation On Takeoff And Initial Climb

The Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) recently delivered another in its series of twelve “Seminar-in-a-Box” (SIB) products for use by the FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam). The SIBs are designed to facilitate interactive discussion among instructors, examiners, and FAASTeam members on topics related to flight training and accident prevention. They further encourage the sharing of best practices in an effort to reduce the fatal accident rate.

Both Pilots Survive California Mid-Air

Night Collision Between Bonanza, R22 Causes Minor Injuries

ANN is thankful to report that a collision between a Beechcraft Bonanza and a Robinson R22 near Rio Vista Municipal Airport in California Sunday night produced an unusual result for a mid-air - no fatalities. KTXL-TV reports the R22 came down in a field on Sherman Island, while the plane made it 30 more miles, and landed at the Byron airport.

Consider this a story that things aren't always what they appear to be. A flight instructor who thought it would be ... instructive ... to allow his BFR candidate to land short of the runway during a simulated power-off landing wound up with a damaged airplane, and probably ego as well. Fortunately, the airplane was the only thing damaged in this incident. Both of the pilots walked away uninjured.

New Event Responds To Attendees Requests

After 14 successful years, the Virginia Aviation Council is adding what it hopes will be a crowd pleasing flying event to their popular Virginia Regional Festival of Flight. Surveys have shown that attendees want to see more aircraft in flight in addition to static displays. So this year, a Directed Parade of Flight will take place on Saturday, April 28 from 12:30pm to 1:30pm at the Suffolk Executive Airport (KSFQ).
