Long-Awaited New Unleaded Aviation Fuel (Finally) On the Way!

The FAA has signed a fleet-wide STC approval to allow General Aviation Modification Inc's 100-octane unleaded avgas for use in every general spark-ignition engine and airframe powered by such. The move is a tremendous step towards a future of unleaded aviation gas, with GAMI's (General Aviation Modifications Inc's acronym, not to be confused with industry org GAMA) G100UL now an option for all piston aircraft across the GA fleet. While the FAA approved similar STCs last year, they covered a small range of aircraft.

Pilot and Passengers Uninjured

Prompted by the in-flight illumination of an annunciator light, the pilot of an Airbus (formerly Eurocopter, formerly Aerospatiale) AS350-B2 helicopter made a precautionary landing in the parking lot of Hawaii’s Aloha Stadium. The maneuver was well executed, and neither the aircraft, the pilot, nor the three passengers aboard the aircraft were damaged. The helicopter is owned and operated by Rainbow Helicopters.

Berlin Tech Expo Imminent

Autel has announced the imminent introduction of new products and expanded capabilities which the company plans to reveal to the wide world during the upcoming IFA 2022 technology exposition in Berlin. The Flight School Association of North America (FSANA) will host the 2nd Annual Designated Pilot Examiners Symposium on 11 & 12 October in Phoenix, Arizona. The event seeks to bring together designated pilot examiners (DPEs) aspiring DPEs, flight schools, government officials, and other aerospace stakeholders to exchange information conducive to improving the practical testing of airmen.

uAvionix has announced its participation in a U.K. Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) endorsed, large-scale trial that will assess whether and to what degree ground-based ADS-B obstruction beacons enhance the safety of glider, hang-gliding, paragliding, and model-flying operations within airspace frequented by conventional aircraft. Subject trials will commence in the autumn of 2022 at various sites throughout the United Kingdom under the auspices of the CAA’s Airspace Modernization Strategy (AMS).

On 01 September 2022 Modern Aviation announced the closure of its acquisitions of the FBO assets and operations at Francis S. Gabreski Airport (FOK) and Republic Airport (FRG) from Sheltair Aviation, the nation’s largest privately-owned aviation network. Minimum Vectoring Altitude (MVA) The lowest MSL altitude at which an IFR aircraft will be vectored by a radar controller, except as otherwise authorized for radar approaches, departures, and missed approaches. The altitude meets IFR obstacle clearance criteria. It may be lower than the published MEA along an airway or J-route segment. It may be utilized for radar vectoring only upon the controller’s determination that an adequate radar return is being received from the aircraft being controlled. Charts depicting minimum vectoring altitudes are normally available only to the controllers and not to pilots.
