Radar Contact Lost Used by ATC to inform a pilot that radar data used to determine the aircraft's position is no longer being received, or is no longer reliable and radar service is no longer being provided. The loss may be attributed to several factors including the aircraft merging with weather or ground clutter, the aircraft operating below radar line of sight coverage, the aircraft entering an area of poor radar return, failure of the aircraft transponder, or failure of the ground radar equipment.

Aero-News: Quote Of The Day (09.03.12)

"... It's a real dump up there." Source: Part of a remark credited to Arnaud Christmann, one of the hikers who discovered the wreckage of a Boeing 707 which went down 46 years ago in the French Alps' Mont Blanc. The wreckage is thought to be that of Air India Flight 101, a Boeing 707 which impacted the mountain on January 24, 1966 on a flight from Mumbai to New York with several intermediate stops. The flight had departed Beirut on its way to Geneva when the accident occurred.
