The European Aviation Safety Agency's 2006 Annual Safety Review
highlights the significant improvements achieved in aviation safety
in recent years. Worldwide, 2006 saw the lowest number of fatal
accidents (42) to fixed wing aircraft in public transportation
within the last decade (1997-2006).
Arguably the first homebuilt airplane, the "Flying Flea" was
introduced in 1934. It was successfully demonstrated by its
designer/builder, Henri Mignet, and with the publication (in book
form) of the plans and instructions soon hundreds of Flying Fleas
were being built in homes across Europe and the United States.

two-day conference for airlines and airport officials at the
Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, focused on ways the
industry can make air travel run a bit more smoothly and be a bit
more -- dare we say it? -- pleasant. One plan under
consideration... creating a "self-service" airport experience for
passengers printing boarding passes and checking baggage.
