Airborne 05.28.19: Tamarack Grounding, 'Fat Albert' Retires, UFO Report

The FAA has grounded Cessna Citation business jets equipped with the Tamarack ‘ATLAS’ active winglet system, stating that, “An unsafe condition exists that requires the immediate adoption of this AD.” According to the AD, “...the active load alleviation system (ATLAS), when operational, deflects the Tamarack active control surfaces (TACS) on the outboard wings. The Lakeland, FL City Commission has given unanimous approval to a plan that will see an Amazon cargo facility built at Lakeland Linder International Airport (KLAL). The 20-year deal gives Amazon a 20-year lease on 47.2 acres at the airport. The company plans to build a seven-jet cargo hangar and bring between 800 to 1,000 jobs to the region. Airport director Gene Conrad called the deal "a home run for us." Amazon will pay some $80,000 per month in rent, and 85 cents per 1,000 pounds of cargo
