Rare WWII Target Drone to be Displayed

Idaho’s Spirit of Flight Museum Acquires Culver PQ-14

Nampa, Idaho’s Spirit of Flight Foundation museum announced that a rare WWII era Culver target drone has been donated to the museum’s collection. Spirit of Flight Foundation president Gordon Page stated: “We have had a Culver PQ-14 Target Drone on our wishlist for years, but there aren’t many left of the over three-thousand built.”

Clay Lacy Aerospace Scholarships Top $500,000

FBO Titan Walks the Walk 

Clay Lacy has anted-up a tremendously generous $500,000 in scholarship funding, thereby making manifest both its largess and dedication to the upcoming generation of aerospace professionals. All told, the 55-year-old FBO concern—in addition to $225,000 in scholarships the company has granted since 2015—has pledged $281,000 to students through new scholarships.

Congressional Report Cites F-35 Failures

Lightning II Reliably Unreliable

The United States Air Force (USAF), in 2021, conducted the TacAir study, an investigative enterprise that examined the tactical requirements of U.S. combat aircraft in future conflicts. The study’s results compelled Air Force chief of staff General Charles Q. Brown to concede the F-35 program had failed to achieve its goals. General Brown further set forth that little reason existed to believe the F-35 platform would ever deliver on its designer’s promises. Comes now 2023, and the F-35 variant operated by the U.S. Air Force is flying less frequently than the service’s F-15E Strike Eagles—which were developed during the Reagan administration of the 1980s.

Coast Guard Abandons Search for Mystery Aerial Object

Out of Sight, Out of Mind

On 02 March 2023, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) made public details pertaining to its efforts to recover the remnants of a mystery aerial object downed over Lake Huron by a USAF F-16 on 12 February. In a statement, the service reported that it had deployed vessels ranging from heavy ice-breakers to airplanes, the crews of which spent nearly sixty-hours looking for the object—albeit unsuccessfully.

U.S. Air Forces Central (AFCENT)—the air component of United States Central Command—reported in February 2023 that the service's Task Force 99 had concluded its first operational experiment, a successful test using small drones for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) purposes.
