The FAA has proposed a rule that overhauls the airworthiness standards for small general aviation airplanes. The FAA’s proposal, which is based on industry recommendations, would reduce the time it takes to get safety enhancing technologies for small airplanes into the marketplace while also reducing cost. The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking restructures the existing certification standards and replaces the current prescriptive design requirements

While at the Redbird Migration 2012, ANN News Editor, Tom Patton, talked with Jerry Gregoire, the founder and chairman of Redbird Flight Simulations. The subject of this discussion was about allowing iPad apps to work with Redbird simulators so that simulator training can be linked to the iPad as a pilot would actually use it in flight. The issue of allowing this to happen is that the iPad must “think” it is in the same location as the simulator and is flying along with the simulator.

Lockheed Martin's Aeronautics business area has announced a voluntary layoff program that is targeted to reduce employment by approximately 1,000 positions at locations in the United States.

As ANN has previously reported, Skydive Myrtle Beach, a skydiving operation located on the Myrtle Beach Grandstand Airport, was shut down by the Horry County Department of Airports. Horry County alleged that the FAA had cited the operation for 112 safety violations. However, the Department of Airports was unable to provide proof of the alleged violations.
