NATCA Calls FAA Request A 'Publicity Stunt'

As Aero-News reported in Real-Time Monday, the war of words continues between the FAA and the National Air Traffic Controllers Association over ongoing contract talks. After the Federal Aviation Administration requested a federal mediator to oversee its talks with the controller's union, NATCA's response was succinct, calling the request "a publicity stunt, pure and simple."

Hyde Delegation Leaves Venezuela After Being Held On Plane

Was To Meet With Country's VP, Other Officials

Relations between the United States and Venezuela have cooled several more degrees, as a US congressional delegation scheduled to meet with Venezuelan Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel and other government officials Monday was not permitted to leave their aircraft after in landed in Caracas. After waiting for approximately one hour, the airplane left, according to a US embassy spokesman.

Source: Jose Cabello, president of the Caracas-area airport where a US Congressional delegation flew into Monday for a meeting with Venezuelan Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel. The meeting never occurred, and the US Embassy claims Venezuelan authorities did not allow the delegation off the airplane. After approximately one hour, according to the embassy, the aircraft left Caracas -- causing further strain to already troubled ties between the two countries.
