Airborne 09.11.23: FAA SpaceX Report, H2 Flight!, Bearcat Rebirth

The FAA has issued a brief statement in which they state that they have closed the SpaceX Starship Super Heavy mishap investigation. The final report cites multiple root causes of the April 20, 2023, mishap and 63 corrective actions SpaceX must take to prevent mishap reoccurrence. H2Fly, a German Hydrogen-Electric Demo Company has successfully completed a test flight using its liquid hydrogen-electric powered HY4 aircraft. The HY4 demonstrator was able to set a company record with a 3-hour flight, showing some promising performance that points to a max range somewhere around 1,500 kilometers. FAA Certified: Gulfstream G700 and G800 Engines

Approval For Powerplants Move Aircraft Closer to Entry Into Service

Almost ready for prime time, Gulfstream has confirmed that the Gulfstream G700 and Gulfstream G800 Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines have earned FAA certification, bringing the aircraft program another step closer towards entry into service and customer deliveries. “We are excited about this latest advancement towards G700 and G800 certification,” said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream.

Single Type J DLNA Module Reduces 5G Interference

A TSO-approved module designed to reinforce L-band satcom signals is now available via Honeywell, aimed squarely at aircraft operators concerned about the impact of 5G cell network interference. The Type J DLNA device can "limit the effects of cellular interference on certain satellite communications (satcom) systems for aircraft communications". Honeywell’s Type J DLNA (Diplexer/Low Noise Amplifier) was designed as an upgrade for those using the firm's Inmarsat L-band network, used around the world by carriers and aircraft operators for long-range communications.
