Gogo has appointed longtime company man Sergio Aguirre as president and chief operating officer as they institute plans for succession and general counsel roles to replace and reorganize their corporate structure. Aguirre is a familiar face for those acquainted with Gogo's Business Aviation Division, having worked as the president of the arm. His move up will place him over Gogo, Inc. proper, reporting directly to Gogo chairman and CEO Oakleigh Thorne.

Gogo 5G Hitting Milestones 

During the past three months, Gogo Business Aviation has been on a tear with the development of its 5G program. At the end of December, the company announced that it had begun deploying its 5G network, completing construction of a seven-tower 5G testbed. Additional sites will be completed at a rapid pace throughout the first half of 2022 and Gogo will launch service with 100% nationwide coverage across the contiguous United States. Gogo 5G is expected to deliver ~25 Mbps on average with peak speeds in the 75-80 Mbps range and has been designed to deliver high throughput with very low latency to address the increasing demand for data-heavy interactive services like video conferencing or Facetime.

Universal Avionics has combined efforts with Trimec Aviation to provide a streamlined, integrated avionics package for the Dassault Falcon 2000/2000EX aircraft. The system will replace the aging Collins Aerospace Pro Line 4 equipment as shipped from the factory, swapping it out for the Universal Avionics InSight Flight Display System, SBAS-Flight Management Systems, UniLink Communications Management System, and the futuristic SkyLens head-wearable display. The STC approval for the suite is in the works, expected to be issued for the first aircraft type in the 1st quarter of 2023.

The electric VX4 has beat expected pre-order commitment estimates with more than 500 aircraft earmarked for airlines around the world. Avolon, a global aircraft lessor, pre-ordered 500 VX4s in June of last year, and has now chosen to exercise its option for 50 additional aircraft after placing each one of its initial order. Vertical Aerospace has been seeing considerable interest in the VX4, whether with JAL, AirAsia, Gol, and more, their work will soon be in service around the world. Avolon's successful home-ing of 550 brand-new, first-generation aircraft in an impressive feat.
