Calls On ICAO, Governments To Accelerate The Process

Flight Safety Foundation has urged world governments to step up their regulation and enforcement of recreational drones. In a letter to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Secretary General Fang Liu, Foundation President and CEO Jon Beatty said, “Based on a number of recent incidents, we are increasingly concerned that uncertificated, untrained recreational drone operators are flying small UAS near airports and manned aircraft. … The proliferation and operation of small drones by people without aviation experience is becoming one of the most significant hazards to manned aviation. This poses unacceptable risks to aviation safety.”

AHRS-Derived System Includes Helicopter-Specific Safety Features

Garmin has introduced the GFC 600H flight control system for helicopter owners and operators, which the company says is a breakthrough in cost-effective technology that reduces pilot workload and improves mission effectiveness. This attitude-based (AHRS-derived) flight control system boasts a number of helicopter-tailored safety features, including stability augmentation system (SAS), Garmin Helicopter Electronic Stability and Protection (H-ESP), dedicated return-to-level (LVL) mode, hover assist, as well as overspeed and low speed protection.
