Airborne 01.20.15: SAFE--FAA Pulled NPRM, Cape's Busy 2015, MRJ Readies

Less than a week before it was to take effect, the FAA pulled the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators, known as SAFE, requested direct-to-final rule to allow pilots up to 20 simulator hours toward an instrument rating.  The unexpected move leaves pilots limited to the 10 simulator hours allowed by FAR 61.65. A schedule recently released by the U.S. Air Force includes 24 rocket launches from Cape Canaveral in 2015, which would make it the world's busiest spaceport in the coming year.
