Petition Presented By Organizations Representing 400,000 On The Front Lines Of U.S. Aviation
Lawyers for nine organizations representing 400,000 aviation professionals, passengers and law enforcement officers today filed a legal petition with Transportation Security Administrator John Pistole and copied to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano seeking to rescind plans to allow knives in the aircraft cabins for the first time since 9/11.
Increases Ratio To One Flight Attendant For Every 50 Passenger Seats
Transport Canada has granted permission for WestJet to employ a ratio of one flight attendant for every 50 passenger seats onboard an aircraft. "The safety of Canadians is Transport Canada's top priority," said the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. "The department has considered WestJet's request carefully and is confident that the same levels of safety will be maintained."
Toronto-Based Company Appointed Authorized Technical Training Provider (ATTP)
Bombardier has appointed training services provider FlightPath International (FPI) of Toronto as its Authorized Technical Training Provider (ATTP) for all entitlement and recurrent technical training for Bombardier's CRJ Series commercial aircraft and Challenger 850, Challenger 870 and Challenger 890 business jets.
Final Report Issued Last Week Concerning Risk-Based Oversight
On May 1, 2013, the DOT Inspector General issued its final report on the FAA's risk-based oversight of aircraft repair stations. Currently, FAA is responsible for overseeing nearly 4,800 repair stations used worldwide by U.S air carriers. The IG found that while FAA developed a risk assessment process to aid repair station inspectors in identifying areas of greatest concern, its oversight continues to emphasize completing mandatory inspections instead of targeting resources where they are needed based on risk.
Bombardier Opens New Lines For Q400 At Planemaker's Largest Service Center
Bombardier has opened three new lines of maintenance at its Tucson, Arizona aircraft service center to boost heavy maintenance capacity for Q400 and Q400 NextGen turboprops. The new lines are housed in an existing hangar space on Tucson's 1,146,901 square foot service center, complementing existing maintenance capabilities for Q-Series aircraft at Bombardier's facilities in Bridgeport, West Virginia and Macon, Georgia.
