Following the record breaking oceanic flight of 5 days and 5 nights in the solar powered airplane by André Borschberg, Solar Impulse will undergo maintenance repairs on the batteries. Despite having completed the longest and most difficult leg of the Round the World Solar Flight, the solar powered airplane has suffered battery damages due to overheating. The Solar Impulse team said in a news release that the damage to certain parts of the batteries is irreversible and will require repairs and replacements that will take several weeks to work through. House Science Subcommittee Reviews Challenges To International Space Station

Operational And Maintenance Issues, International Partnership Among The Topics Discussed

The Subcommittee on Space held a hearing late last week to examine the current status of the International Space Station (ISS) and evaluate NASA' plans for dealing with operational and maintenance challenges. Witnesses at the hearing also discussed the status of the ISS partnership, how NASA is utilizing the ISS to enable future deep space exploration, and the Administration’s request to extend ISS operations to 2024.
