NASA managers announced this week the space agency is officially
targeting September 10, 2008 for the launch of STS-125, the fifth
and final space shuttle servicing mission to the Hubble Space
Telescope. During the 11-day flight, Atlantis' seven astronauts
will repair and improve the observatory's capabilities through
2013.
ANN REALTIME UPDATE 06.28.07 1945 EDT: It
took three months longer than NASA had planned... but Atlantis is
finally heading skyward, carrying the latest building blocks of the
International Space Station, and putting NASA's soon-to-be retired
shuttle program back on track.
The Expedition 15 crew completed their second spacewalk in eight
days Wednesday, and continued preparations for space shuttle
Atlantis' arrival at the International Space Station.
NASA has issued a request for proposal Wednesday for key
guidance, navigation and control hardware for the new Ares I crew
launch vehicle. The upper stage instrument unit avionics is to be
used during the Ares I ascent.
