A growing presence at each year’s AirVenture Fly-Ins has been the availability of a number of electrically powered aircraft. While most are concept aircraft hoping for eventual production, one, the Pipistrel Alpha Electro, is already in production and for sale. So, for this week’s “OSHStar” Feature, we have to admit serious anticipation in regards to what’s next for the composite electric two place training bird. The capabilities of the Alpha Electro 2-seat electric trainer were tailored to meet the needs of today’s flight schools. The bird boasts short take-off distances, a powerful 1000+ fpm climb, and an current endurance of one hour -- plus reserve.

RL10 Engine To Power ULA’s New Vulcan Centaur Upper Stage

Part Of Long-Term Agreement Between The ULA And Aerojet Rocketdyne

United Launch Alliance (ULA) has selected Aerojet Rocketdyne’s RL10 rocket engine to power the upper stage that will fly atop ULA’s new Vulcan Centaur launch vehicle. The selection came as part of a long-term agreement between the two companies that calls for Aerojet Rocketdyne to provide RL10 upper-stage rocket engines to support ULA’s current and future launch vehicles.

Copernicus Sentinel-3B Delivers First Images

Less than two weeks after it was launched, the Copernicus Sentinel-3B satellite has delivered its first images of Earth. Exceeding expectations, this first set of images include the sunset over Antarctica, sea ice in the Arctic and a view of northern Europe.
