Airborne 05.02.16: Delta Buys CSeries, Tecnam P2010, Skydiving Competition

The Bombardier C-Series aircraft program received a major boost when Delta Airlines executed a firm agreement for the purchase of seventy five CS100 aircraft with an option for an additional fifty CS100’s. Delta may elect to convert a number of these aircraft into CS300’s at a later date. Based on the list price of the CS100 aircraft, the firm order is valued at approximately $5.6 billion. American Small Business, Research Institution To Receieve Funding

NASA has selected 399 research and technology proposals from 259 American small businesses and 42 research institutions that will enable NASA's future missions into deep space, while also benefiting the U.S. economy. The awards have a total value of approximately $49.7 million.

Completes 500th Large-Scale Rocket Structure

Orbital ATK has announced that the company’s Iuka, Mississippi, manufacturing plant has produced its 500th large composite rocket structure for United Launch Alliance (ULA) launch vehicles. Since its establishment in 1998, the Large Structure Center of Excellence manufacturing plant has produced 68 Atlas V, 28 Delta II and 404 Delta IV large composite structures across 106 ULA launches.

Deals Valued At Nearly $27 Million

Kongsberg has signed two contracts with a total value of EUR 23.6 million (approx. $26.73 million) with Airbus Defence and Space for delivery of a KA band Antenna Pointing System and Solar Array Drive Assembly for the next generation European weather satellite program MetOp-Second Generation (MetOp-SG), a program of and funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and EUMETSAT.
