When Peggy Whitson arrived at ISS this weekend, she became the oldest woman to fly in space at the age of 56. According to a report from NPR, Whitson will turn 57 during her stay on the space station, which is her third visit to the orbiting outpost. She will assume duties as the Station's Commander when the current crew returns to Earth, and when she returns to Earth next spring, she will hold the record as the U.S. astronaut having spent the most time in orbit. Marks Second Time Cygnus Used As A Science Platform

The Cygnus spacecraft has successfully unberthed from the International Space Station, starting the second phase of its mission before it reenters Earth’s atmosphere. Orbiting on its own, free of the ISS, the “S.S. Alan Poindexter” Cygnus will conduct two secondary mission objectives as part of its flight program: the Saffire-II payload experiment and the deployment of CubeSats to enhance weather forecasting capabilities.
