AMA Drone Report 10.25.18: Dave Mathewson Goes West, AMA Expo, DJI Refutes

One of the true leaders in the personal drone community and the recently retired Executive Director of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, Dave Mathewson (AMA #23), has gone west. Among a lifetime of accomplishment, Dave served as the 23rd President of the AMA from 2008-2011, and became its Executive Director in 2011, serving in that post until earlier this year when he retired. Dave received the AMA Exemplary Award in 2003, the AMA Distinguished Service Award in 2006, the AMA Fellowship Award in 2009 and was inducted into the AMA Model Aviation Hall of Fame in 2011. The 20th annual AMA Expo West will be at the Fairplex Exposition Center in Pomona, California for the first time

National Stem Cell Foundation Studying Effects Of Microgravity On Parkinson's Disease and Multiple Sclerosis

The National Stem Cell Foundation (NSCF), Summit for Stem Cell Foundation, The New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) Research Institute, and Space Tango have announced a bi-coastal research collaboration to study Parkinson's disease (PD) and primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS) in microgravity. For the first time, cells from patients with PD and PPMS will be sent to the International Space Station (ISS) for a unique opportunity to observe cell-to-cell interactions in neurodegenerative disease when the gravitational forces that act on cells are removed.
