Boeing announced Monday that 747-8 launch customer Cargolux
placed a follow-on order for three additional Boeing 747-8
Freighters, valued at $845 million at list prices, and added two
options. This brings the Luxembourg-based cargo operator's total
747-8 Freighter order to 13 airplanes, two options and 10 purchase
rights.
"We have scrubbed for the day." With that statement, launch
controllers on Kwajalein Atoll nixed any chance the Falcon 1
rocket would launch Monday, as crews work to get a handle on a
reported communications glitch.

Aero-News has learned Cessna delivered three new C172 Skyhawks
to Northwestern Michigan College last week. These aircraft are the
first of 11 Skyhawks that will upgrade the College's fleet over a
period of 14 months. The order was placed through Suburban Aviation
in Lambertville, MI.
Embraer has signed with Alpi Eagles to deliver five Embraer 195
jets, as part of the Italian airline's expansion plan for Europe,
which has also taken options on another five aircraft and purchase
rights for six additional units. The deal may be worth, if all
options and purchase rights are exercised, as much as $584 million
at list prices.

Within the past hour, two Airbus A380 superjumbo airliners -- one
flown by a Lufthansa flight crew, the other plane destined for
Australian carrier Qantas but flown by Airbus pilots -- landed at
New York's JFK International Airport, and Los Angeles International
Airport in southern California.

Two A380s are flying into two US destinations, today, 19th
March, allowing both the East and West Coasts of North America to
simultaneously welcome the world's largest commercial airliner,
which Airbus claims to be "the most technically advanced and

Space Shuttle Atlantis, surrounded by service platforms in
highbay 1 inside the Vehicle Assembly Building, continues to
undergo inspection for hail damage. Special scaffolding and access
platforms have been erected to allow for the mapping and inspection
of the external fuel tank. Repair methods and criteria are also
being developed.
More than 10 Lockheed Martin Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) 35
design engineers came aboard USS Nassau (LHA 4) on March 9 to
observe AV-8B Harrier vertical short take off and landings (VSTOL).
Lockheed Martin used the visit to familiarize the designers of the
JSF-35 VSTOL aircraft with some of the operational and
environmental challenges of shipboard life.
The winter snows have not yet melted, but wild whooping
cranes are already returning to their summer nesting grounds in
central Wisconsin. The Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership (WCEP)
tells ANN that they are coordinating an effort to return migrating
whooping cranes to eastern North America, reports that two
reintroduced whooping cranes have arrived at Necedah National
Wildlife Refuge.
A docked Progress 23 cargo craft fired its engines Thursday
night lifting the International Space Station to a higher orbit.
The 12 minute, 32 second burn readies the station for the upcoming
docking of Expedition 15 in April. The reboost also puts the
station in the correct trajectory for the landing of Expedition 14
several days after Expedition 15 arrives.
In Afghanistan this week, 289 close air support missions were
flown in support of the International Security Assistance Force and
Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.
