Why Pack What Can be Rented?

In a move certain to raise eyebrows, and possibly hemlines, Japan Airlines (JAL) has teamed with Japanese worldwide trading concern and clothing manufacturer Sumitomo Corporation for the purpose of offering the air-carrier’s passengers a clothing rental service. The scheme’s architects posit passengers will travel with fewer bags if afforded opportunity to rent fashionable, comfortable clothing at their destinations. Fewer bags equals diminished aircraft weight, which in turn equals diminished fuel expenditure and correspondingly lower CO2 emissions.

During an attempted coup of Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin's government, forces of the Wagner Group shot down a high-value Russian IL-22M airborne command post aircraft outside the town of Bugaevka, killing the aircraft’s crew and destroying the aircraft utterly. USAF Investigating F-35A Cautionary Landing

Fighter Lands Safely in 15 June LUF Incident

A U.S. Air Force spokesman set forth the service is investigating the cause of a June 2023 in-flight mechanical irregularity aboard one of its F-35A fighters. The pilot of the stricken fifth-generation, Lockheed-Martin fighter jet opted to return to Arizona’s Luke Air Force Base (LUF) where he landed safely and stood by while USAF maintenance personnel attempted to troubleshoot the $80-million aircraft—so stated 56th Fighter Wing spokesman Sean Clements on Wednesday, 28 June.

Moody AFB, Gowen ANGB will Replace Thunderbolts with Lightnings, Falcons

The Department of the Air Force named two new aircraft assignments for some of its frontline fighters, with Moody AFB in Georgia set to receive active-duty F-35As, and Gowen Field ANGB of Idaho to transition to the F-16. Moody AFB will begin accepting 2 squadrons of F-35A Lightning IIs in 2027, which will require base personnel to swell by about 500 personnel.

NTSB Prelim: Piper PA46

While Being Vectored To Airport Smoke Began To Enter The Cockpit

On June 18, 2023, about 0843 central daytime time, a Piper PA46-350P airplane, N463HP, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near College Station, Texas. The pilot was not injured. The airplane was operated under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. While on departure from the airport, the pilot observed high oil temperature readings.
