Three-Way Pact Includes LOI For 50 EVE Aircraft

EVE Air Mobility, the eVTOL segment of Embraer, announced it has signed onto a three-way deal to develop eVTOL operations in Costa Rica. Under the agreement, EVE secured a Letter of Intent, or LOI, from advanced air mobility (AAM) operator Aerosolutions for 50 eVTOL aircraft from EVE.

The third party to the agreement is Bluenest, a subsidiary of the Spanish infrastructure management firm Globalvia. Bluenest will develop a network of vertiports in the northwestern regions of Costa Rica.

The business plan leverages the promising opportunity presented by the country’s growing high-end eco-tourism industry. The initial operations will focus on the Pacific coast by connecting airports to nature resorts within a 20 to 50 mile radius.

Globalvia already has a significant presence in Costa Rica’s infrastructure sector. It manages the A27 motorway and this is expected to facilitate the company’s rollout of the vertiports and associated infrastructure for AAM operations. The company also is eyeing the development of air-ground multi-modal transportation nodes to tie in with the vertiports.

For EVE, the contract also provides for access to EVE’s TechCare service package. 

Megha Bhatia, Chief Commercial Officer for EVE, described how the company is planning to leverage the service network and customer care expertise of its parent company Embraer to help differentiate itself within the eVTOL market.

Bluenest said it has already conducted flight tests at Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in Liberia, in Western Costa Rica, in March 2024.
