ACI Reveals Collaboration With the Florida Institute of Technology at AirVenture

Editorial Board Members Michael Baum, Donna Wilts, and Ric Peri introduced the Aviators' Code Initiative (ACI), a set of guidelines adaptable to each pilot and organizational need. The pair is collaborating in order to ensure the material is permanently available through FIT’s Evans Library Scholarship Repository.

Partnering with an educational institution has always been a plan for ACI, with hopes to modernize digital tools and enhance use in academia for research purposes. FIT as the premier private technological university in the Southeast makes it the perfect host for the Aviators Model Code Conduct (AMCC) and its companion documents.

As an extension of the ACI, the AMCC outlines a specific set of recommended practices. Developed by a team of aviation professionals, the AMCC endorses operations that enhance the quality and safety of flight operations. The materials are encouraged for the entire aviation community for risk management, safety assurance, and safety promotion use. The codes additionally support personal minimums, help users evaluate hazards effectively, advance communities, and play a role in the decision-making process.

The available codes are translated into Chinese, French, German, and Spanish and are currently available on the Evans Library website.

“Pilot conduct, no matter the aircraft they are operating, impacts the entire aviation community, including its safety culture,” said Wilt, “Codes of conduct can help achieve new levels of proficiency, and as guidelines adaptable to each pilot and organizational need, the ACI’s various codes are powerful tools to help both professionals and non-professionals across the aviation industry.”
