Updated: Gryder Arrested On Gun Charge, Cites ‘Georgia Stand Your Ground’ Law

Incidents Allegedly Occured As Described in Police Report(s) 25-005809 and 25-005818

ANN Update, 0828ET, 10.17.25: ANN Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell was woken up earlier this morning (0705ET) by a phone call from Dan Gryder. Campbell had gone to bed only a few hours earlier due to working late on other projects and was awoken from a sound sleep.

Gryder called to castigate Campbell over alleged errors that he claimed were part of recent reporting (though all reports were based on Police reports and related conversations) and then attempted to assert that Campbell was drunk, both via Gryder's voice communications as well as follow-on text messaging. As ANN Staff can attest, Campbell is not a drinker, and was simply trying to wake up to deal with Gryder's statements... which quickly evolved into insults, name-calling and other offensive acts. When Gryder's invective grew increasingly hostile, appeared to be threatening and as is ANN policy, the short call (less than 10 minutes) was terminated.

Shortly thereafter, Gryder texted ANN with insistence that Campbell 'sounded' drunk, and then proceeded with what appeared to be a claim that he recorded the very recent call (with an apparent intent to broadcast), despite no attempt to inform Campbell that he was doing so, and despite the fact that Gryder was calling a party in Florida... a 'two-party consent' state. In Florida, recording a phone call requires two-party consent.

This means that all individuals engaged in a private conversation must consent to any audio recording of the conversation to be legal. This is a strict requirement to protect the privacy rights of individuals and is codified in Florida Statutes § 934.03. Violating this law can result in serious criminal penalties, including imprisonment and fines.

Based on this, and multiple reports of related actions on Gryder's part, we felt it best to file a report with the Police... and have done so. Our local Police Department attempted to call Gryder to question him but Gryder refused discussion and reportedly hung up on the officer.

Original Report: The name ’Dan Gryder’ is fairly well known to many in aviation.... Whether you like him or not.

ANN is examining Police reports that describe an armed confrontation that took place at 147 Sky Harbor Way, Griffin GA, on October 12th between Dan and a resident he accused of blocking the taxiway with an RV (which was reportedly a regular occurrence)... and which allegedly developed into an assault on Gryder by fellow resident Tracy Darrell Wallace the day before.

When Wallace reportedly approached Gryder the next day ‘to offer apologies (according to Wallace’ testimony), Gryder reported to ANN that he felt threatened and invoked Georgia’s ‘Stand Your Ground’ law, showing Wallace a small handgun on his own property and allegedly threatening its use if Wallace continued his approach.

The reports on the prior day’s beating of Gryder conflict with each other’s testimony though a nearby video camera may ultimately prove who did what, though Wallace was also taken into custody.

While Gryder is no stranger to controversy, news reports from 2018 show that Wallace is no stranger to conflict, either... with an arrest for battery and false imprisonment.

It's apparently a tough neighborhood...

ANN is examining additional Police documents received in accordance with Public Disclosure laws and will report back when the situation gets a bit better defined.
