Bombardier Global 8000 Records New Top Speed: Mach 0.95

Biz Jet Aims to Enter Service By Year’s End

The Bombardier Global 8000 is positioning itself to be the fastest civilian aircraft on the market since the Concorde, setting a new top speed of Mach 0.95. As long as the timeline does not veer off track, the jet will be entering service before the year’s end.

“This accomplishment for Bombardier is reflective of the remarkable expertise of every employee that has worked on the development of this industry-leading business jet,” said Éric Martel, Bombardier President and CEO. “With our Bombardier Global 8000, our customers will now be able to reach their destinations even faster, arriving refreshed and ready to carry out their desired missions.”

The announcement came during the 2025 NBAA Business Aviation Convention in Las Vegas. The first production aircraft completed its maiden flight in May and is currently undergoing interior completion and final certification steps.

Speed aside, Bombardier is marketing the Global 8000 as a high-performance long-hauler. With a range of 8,000 nautical miles, it claims to connect New York to Dubai or Singapore to San Francisco nonstop while keeping passengers at a cabin altitude lower than Denver’s.

The company brags that the Global 8000’s speed, reach, and comfort make it both practical and futuristic… and its design backs this up. It uses leading-edge slats to shorten takeoff rolls, claiming to permit operations at up to 30% more airports than comparable large jets. The interior features four living spaces and a separate crew rest area.

The Global 8000’s development has been a long time coming, with Bombardier first announcing the program nearly a decade ago. If all goes according to plan, deliveries will begin before the end of 2025. At that point, the Global 8000 may officially become the world’s fastest business jet, even if the margin is measured in hundredths of Mach.

“The Global 8000 was already the fastest business aircraft ever built, and with this new speed capability, this incredible aircraft is set to redefine the ultra-long-range market,” added Stephen McCullough, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Product Development at Bombardier.
