Gulfstream G550 Reinforces Reliability And Capabilities With World Speed Record

Connects Shanghai With Seattle In Record Time

A Gulfstream G550 recently established a new city-pair speed record, connecting Shanghai with Seattle in 10 hours and 29 minutes, bringing the number of records the jet has earned to 55.

The aircraft departed Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport at 2:09 p.m. local time on April 19 and arrived at Seattle’s King County International Airport-Boeing Field, at 9:38 a.m. local time, completing the 5,123-nautical-mile flight at an average speed of Mach 0.85.

“Our customers can depend on the G550’s performance and reliability,” said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream. “The G550 never fails to impress as it continues to break records and uphold its lasting reputation, demonstrating why the G550 is a consistent choice for business aviation and special missions operations.”

Powered by two Rolls-Royce engines, the G550 has a maximum range of 6,750 nm at its long-range cruise speed of Mach 0.80. With a cabin length of 43 feet, 11 inches, the aircraft seats up to 19 passengers and sleeps up to eight.

Pending approval by the U.S. National Aeronautic Association, the Shanghai to Seattle city-pair will be sent to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale in Switzerland for recognition as a world record.
