Unmanned Martin Jetpack Climbs To 5000' and Tests
Ballistic Parachute Deployment/Recovery
For those who thought the Martin ducted fan personal flying
machine (aka 'Martin Jetpack' -- even though no 'jets' are
involved) was a complex parlor trick (and yeah, we were getting
there), there seems to be some evidence that the machine CAN
actually accomplish some complex, even useful, helicopter like
flying tasks. A recent test flight, radio-controlled from a chase
helo, proved that the system can attain serious altitudes, while
also showing that the BRS emergency system (as usual) can handle an
emergency descent with relative ease.
Quick Descent And Emergency Landing Averts Tragedy
I don't have to tell you that one of the true nightmares of any
pilot's existence is dealing with inflight fire. In the case of a
mostly fabric aircraft of elder lineage, the problems can get out
of hand in a heartbeat. This pilot did what he should have done...
got the bird down before an inflight fire consumed too much of the
aircraft to permit continued flight. Good work...
CrewPASS Demonstrates Required Capabilities For Crew
ARINC Incorporated says its CrewPASS expedited screening service
for airline pilots and crewmembers is the only screening solution
proven to deliver three primary capabilities requested by the
Transportation Security Administration for crew screening.
An advisory provided by a flight service station to a pilot
during a preflight or inflight weather briefing that flight under
visual flight rules is not recommended. To be given when the
current and/or forecast weather conditions are at or below VFR
minimums. It does not abrogate the pilot's authority to make
his/her own decision.
Aero-Linx: The International
Council Of Air Shows Foundation Fund for Kyle and
Kyle Franklin and Amanda Younkin Franklin, a much loved young
husband and wife wingwalking team, were seriously injured following
an accident at the Air Fiesta 2011 air show in Brownsville, Texas,
on March 12. Both received serious burn injuries when Kyle, who was
the pilot of the aircraft, performed a forced/emergency landing
following an engine failure in his highly-modified Waco biplane.
Kyle is in the process of recovering from his injuries... much of
which were received in an attempt to rescue Amanda. On May 27th,
Amanda's fight for life ended and the entire aviation world is
shocked to lose such a bright and vibrant presence.
