Showers sent Oshkosh fans scurrying Thursday -- but only for
part of the day. The rain ended in the early afternoon and, by the
time the air show started, the sun was even peeking through.
Friday's forecast calls for afternoon thunderstorms.

The official FAA seminar explaining Sport Pilot and Light Sport
Aircraft is playing to a packed house at Oshkosh this week. And the
FAA was well prepared. Moderating the program was FAA Sport Pilot
Manager, Sue Gardner. Her onstage team included FAA's Scott
Sedgwick, who talked about Light Sport Aircraft airworthiness; Bill
O'Brien, charged with explaining Light Sport Aircraft maintenance
and repair; and Marty Weaver, Sport Pilot Branch Manager.
Ballistic Recovery Systems, Inc. announced Wednesday at
AirVenture 2004 that it has received certification from the FAA on
a parachute system for the Cessna 182 aircraft, model years 1964 to
the present. In addition, the European Aviation Safety Agency
(EASA) also recently approved the BRS system for the Cessna 172,
further expanding the system's global reach in the aviation
In 1998, Cirrus Design Corporation certified the SR20. The
sleek, all-composite airframe was then, and remains, the only
FAA-certified aircraft to offer a parachute as standard equipment.

An Israeli Aircraft Industries division is reportedly under
investigation for installing faulty landing gear components in El
Al commercial aircraft, as well as the Israel Air Force's F-15s and
F-16s. The faulty parts could cause the planes' landing gear to
collapse, according to published reports.

Another OEM customer Tuesday announced the Garmin G1000
integrated flight system will now be standard equipment on Bonanzas
and Barons starting next year. In a press conference attended by
both reporters and members of the American Bonanza Society,
Beechcraft committed totally to the Garmin glass panel.
