There was more news at this year's AirVenture celebration than
any time in recent memory... but, alas, there were fewer people.
That's the word from the EAA, which on Tuesday released attendance
figures for the weeklong aviation event.

Guess who just might be general aviation's newest best friend?
It's Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue... who says he wants to make
sure there's at least one 5,000-foot long runway within 30-minutes
of every person in his state.
At AirVenture 2006, Forward Vision president Patrick S. Farrell
-- whose company builds a FLIR (forward looking infrared radar, a
night vision system for airplanes) made several announcements --
the most surprising being is that Forward Vision is dropping the
cost of their units by $5000, bringing the non-installation cost of
their units down to $9,995 for the first 100 buyers.
It wasn't an airframe problem that brought down a firefighting
P-3 Orion in California last year... it was pilot error. That's the
conclusion of an investigation by the San Mateo County Times...
