SUMMARY: The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness
directive (AD) for General Electric Company (GE) CF34-3A1 turbofan
engines installed on Bombardier series Regional Jets with certain
high pressure turbine (HPT) rotating components installed.
One woman was killed and more than a dozen people injured
Thursday when passengers evacuated a Saudi Arabian Airlines plane
on the ground at Colombo, Sri Lanka. They fled in panic after a
bomb scare that local police later suspected was a hoax.
Rowan Companies says a Sikorsky S-76 helicopter carrying 10
passengers and two crew members crashed in the Gulf of Tuesday
afternoon. All 12 persons aboard, including eight Rowan employees,
were rescued later that night by the US Coast Guard and transported
to nearby hospitals.

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley was wrong to bulldoze Meigs Field in
the middle of the night and now, Chicago will have to pay. That
word comes from the FAA, which has ordered the city to pay a
$33,000 fine. But the city still faces the possibility of a much
larger fine -- as the investigation into allegations that Daley
misused $1.5 million in FAA grants continues.
