Inspection And Maintenance Required After An Overload Clutch Slipping Event

The Rotax folks have published a Service Bulletin after issues were noted that affect all R915i and R916i series engines. Rotax operators have reported occasional, isolated, cases a momentary slipping of the overload clutch -- which may lead to a slight exceedance of the maximum rpm limit, followed by the engine rpm quickly normalizing. Rotax describes the overspeed event whereby the engine speed setting is actually between 5500 rpm and 5800 rpm at WOT stabilized, 'followed by a sudden overspeed up to 6500 rpm for less than a second..."

Telescope Automatically Entered Safe Mode When One Of Its Three Gyroscopes Gave Faulty Telemetry Readings

Not all is quite right with the Hubble Space Telescope... NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope entered safe mode May 24 due to an ongoing gyroscope (gyro) issue, suspending science operations. Hubble’s instruments are stable, and the telescope is in good health. The telescope automatically entered safe mode when one of its three gyroscopes gave faulty telemetry readings. Hubble’s gyros measure the telescope’s slew rates and are part of the system that determines and controls precisely the direction the telescope is pointed.

NASA, Mission Partners Forgo June 2 Launch of Crew Flight Test

NASA, Boeing, and ULA (United Launch Alliance) scrubbed Saturday's launch attempt due to the computer ground launch sequencer not loading into the correct operational configuration after proceeding into terminal count. The ULA team subsequently went back to work to understand the cause. The next launch opportunity of Sunday, June 2, at 12:03 p.m. EDT, was put off -- again.

Coast Guard Has A VERY Busy Weekend

A U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Savannah aircrew rescued a 35-year-old male diver, Friday, after he drifted away from his vessel while diving 75 miles offshore Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Coast Guard District Seven command center watchstanders in Miami, Florida received a notification from an emergency GPS beacon around 1:50 p.m., activated by the dive boat crewmembers aboard the 28-foot vessel when he didn’t resurface.

GAMA released their 1Q/24 GA Aircraft Shipment and Billing Report -- with mostly mixed news. The results for the first three months of 2024 when compared to the same period in 2023, show deliveries were flat for piston airplanes and piston helicopters, decreased for turboprops and turbine helicopters, and increased for business jets. The Airspace Center for Excellence has been given the blessing to begin operating Lakeland Linder International Airport's first concessions store, riding on the tail of new commercial service by Avelo Airlines. A Saturday afternoon jump run, originating from SkyDive Kansas City, went bad when it was reported that, "a Skydiver premature parachute deployment at 14,000 msl damag(ed) the tail section." The turbine-upgraded Cessna 206, N29173, was abandoned by the pilot, who made a safe and successful jump, though the aircraft is a total loss.
