FlightSafety International’s Bruce Whitman Named To CAN Board

Fifty-Year Industry Veteran To Help Lead The Organization

Bruce N. Whitman, President and CEO of FlightSafety International, has been elected to the Board of Directors of Corporate Angel Network. “Bruce Whitman’s years of aviation industry leadership provide an outstanding basis for the contribution he will make to the work of Corporate Angel Network,” said Randall Greene, Chairman of the organization.

Bruce (pictured) has more than 50 years of experience in the aviation industry. He worked for the National Business Aviation Association prior to joining FlightSafety International in 1961 as Assistant to the President. He was appointed President & CEO in 2003. FlightSafety is the world’s premier professional aviation training company and supplier of full flight simulators, visual systems and displays.

“It is an honor to help to further the important efforts of Corporate Angel Network as a member of the Board of Directors,” said Bruce. “Having arranged more than 40,000 flights for cancer patients and their family members to date, CAN is a clear demonstration of the generosity and caring that companies and individuals who operate business aircraft have for those in need.”

Bruce graduated Trinity College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He was commissioned a lieutenant in the United States Air Force and earned the triple ratings of pilot, navigator and bombardier serving in the Strategic Air Command. He was appointed Assistant to the Commander, Homestead Air Force Base. After active duty, he attended George Washington University Law School for two years before leaving to join FlightSafety.

He is currently a Director and Chairman of the Executive Committee of PASSUR Aerospace; Co-Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Nominating Committee of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation; a Director of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association; an Executive Committee member of NATA’s Air Charter Safety Foundation Board of Governors; a Director and member of the Executive Committee of ORBIS International and a Director Emeritus of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. He is Vice Chairman of the Air Force Academy Falcon Foundation; President of The Wings Club; a Trustee and member of the Executive Committee of the National World War II Museum and Trustee of Kent School; member of the Harvard Medical School Immunology Advisory Council; member of the Boards of Business Executives for National Security, and the USO of Metropolitan New York. Bruce was honored with their 2009 Distinguished Service Award.

Corporate Angel Network, in operation since 1981, arranges free transportation to treatment for cancer patients using empty seats in corporate aircraft.   With the help of more than 500 major corporations and 35 volunteers, CAN arranges over 250 patient flights to treatment each month and recently flew it’s 40,000th cancer patient flight this month.
