New FMS Reduces Workload In Single-Pilot IFR Operations
In addition to the just announced certification
of Avidyne's much awaited Release 9 Flight Deck, we're pleased to
report that the Avidyne FMS900w has gotten the same respect from
the FAA. The certification of their new Entegra FMS900W
WAAS-enabled GPS/NAV/COM Flight Management System (FMS) is designed
to reduce workload for single-pilot IFR operations.
EAA CEO Will Speak at June 6 Dinner at Wichita's Hyatt
The Wichita Aero Club, in cooperation with the United Way of the
Plains, will raise funds for displaced workers by hosting an
evening gala and silent auction at 7 PM on June 6, 2009 at the

An aircraft operating in VFR conditions but
under an IFR flight plan was found to have broken up, prior to
impact, according to information recently imparted by the NTSB. The
pilot stopped communications with controllers less than a minute
after being instructed to keep his speed up during his descent.

The Space Shuttle Program’s Flight Readiness Review
concluded Tuesday, setting the stage for the executive-level review
at the Kennedy Space Center, which begins April 30. Following the
final review, a firm launch date for the STS-125 mission to service
the Hubble Space Telescope will be set. Launch is currently
targeted for May 12 at 1:31 p.m. EDT.

ATP's new Tampa-area Flight Training Center will open on May 4
at St. Petersburg-Clearwater Airport (KPIE) adjacent to the
Signature FBO. The new training center will offer single- and
multi-engine flight training from Private thru ATP, including
ATP’s Airline Career Pilot Program.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has a new plane to
fly. Costruzioni Aeronautiche Tecnam Srl. and Michael and Lynne
Birmingham, U.S. distributors for the Tecnam line of aircraft, have
donated a brand new 2009 Tecnam P-92 Echo Classic, S-LSA, to
Embry-Riddle's nationally ranked Daytona Beach flight team.
Aero-Linx: Zeppelin and
Garrison Museum Tønder
During the First World War the German Imperial Navy operated
Zeppelin airships from Tønder. The base was placed a few
kilometers north of the city and was virtually self-supporting with
its own gas plant, heating central and waterworks.
A small liquid-propellant sounding rocket developed by the Jet
Propulsion Laboratory for the United States Army. It was the first
true sounding rocket because it was built for no other purpose than
upper air research. The WAC Corporal used an attached Tiny Tim
solid-propellant booster to clear the launch tower.
"During the 11-day mission's five spacewalks, astronauts
will install two new instruments, repair two inactive ones and
perform the component replacements that will keep the (Hubble)
telescope functioning into at least 2014."
