Citation Jet Pilots Gather In Colorado Springs

Second Annual Convention Held For For Citation Owner Pilots

The Citation Jet Pilots owner pilot association (CJP) met during the first week of September at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs for their second annual convention.  The conference brought together owners and pilots of Cessna Citation aircraft and featured a wide range of technical presentations, safety and altitude chamber training, companion pinch hitter training and a variety of social activities.  Ed Bolen of NBAA and Craig Fuller of AOPA were featured speakers, and executives from Cessna, including Chairman Jack Pelton, participated in the exchange.  Thirty companies brought exhibits, and representatives from a variety of supplier, training, manufacturing, insurance, financial, and service organizations participated throughout the week.

"In less than two years, this group has become a substantial voice and contributor to the general and business aviation community" according to John Hayes, President and founder of CJP.  A total of 61 Citation aircraft were present at the Colorado Jet Center, and the convention included more than 220 participants.  John Hayes noted that "this association brings an extra level of enrichment to owning and operating a jet aircraft beyond the normal operations and safety training".  The mutual goals of NBAA, AOPA and CJP include advocacy for the freedom to operate within the general aviation community and bring value to the economy of our country.

Unique to this year's program was a special safety/insurance program which featured six topics and eleven hours of interactive instruction.  Pilots who completed this program are eligible for significant no-claims bonuses from participating insurance providers.  Also special to CJP is the "companion" pinch hitter training program which offers participants extensive ground training and the opportunity to actually land their jet from the right seat during a simulated pilot incapacitation.  This is thought to be the first program of its type for this level of jet aircraft.

Tracy Forrest, Chairman of CJP, has flown his Citation Mustang around the world and observed that "the Cessna aircraft company is a national treasure and continues to bring cutting edge, outstanding aircraft and support to the world wide business aviation market".
