Flight Deck Resources has released
their new SkyFi 2000 wireless serial adapter for Electronic Flight
Bags (EFB). The SkyFi 2000 is a serial (RS-422,232,485) to wireless
(802.11) adapter that enables a wireless connection between a GPS
receiver and/or satellite weather receiver and any EFB equipped
with 802.11 wireless connectivity. This wireless GPS connection
enables pilots to show own ship position on airport maps within
their chosen charting application. The wireless data feed provided
by the SkyFi 2000 can also be used to provide moving maps and
satellite weather displays.
This new, significant breakthrough in EFB technology will assist
pilots in their takeoffs and landings; reducing errors associated
with taxi procedures; help pilots and crews gain familiarity with
airports; provide overall increased situational awareness and much
more. Previously, multiple external devices would have to be
connected to an EFB via cables in order to achieve this
functionality. Now with the SkyFi 2000, pilots can gain the
benefits of this new technology on a completely portable and
wireless Class 1 EFB.
“The SkyFi 2000™ will be a great asset to corporate
pilots looking to gain better situational awareness and more
efficient route planning,” said Corey Miller – Vice
President of Engineering and Chief Technology Officer for FDR.
“Pilots will be able to realize all the benefits of FMS data
and own ship positioning in conjunction with GPS and satellite
weather data capability on their EFBs wirelessly.”
The SkyFi 2000 is available now. Flight Deck Resources is a
leading single-source/turnkey Electronic Flight Bag solution
provider. The solutions provided encompass hardware, software,
certification, system integration, training, documentation and
operational approval for air transport, fleet operators, and
corporate aviation.
