Lt. Col. Jack Faas Named New Head Of CAP Historical Foundation

Founder Drew Steketee To Remain In Advisory Role

The board of directors of the Civil Air Patrol Historical Foundation recently elected Lt. Col. Jack Faas of The Colony, TX to be the second executive director of the non-profit foundation preserving and promoting CAP history.

Faas has served as CAPHF deputy director since its creation and was instrumental in initial attempts to install a new exhibit on Civil Air Patrol in the Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH.

CAPHF founder Drew Steketee will remain on the board and serve as an advisor. Steketee established the Foundation in 1997 to help preserve and protect CAP history to promote CAP's past and present value to the nation.

The Foundation has distributed CAP memorabilia and educational materials to thousands of CAP members, veterans and the interested public. It has assisted restorers of veteran CAP airplanes with accurate information and appropriate insignia, much of it replicated and furnished by CAPHF free of charge.

During the 1990s, the Foundation also acquired the Hopper Collection of WWII CAP photography and the Hill Collection of artifacts for a future CAP Museum.

CAPHF created "The Museum of the Civil Air Patrol on the Web" in 2005 under its Photo Archives Project, begun in 2002. This interim "Internet museum" stands in for the physical museum CAPHF hopes to build.

Faas and Steketee pioneered CAP's annual display near AeroShell Square at EAA AirVenture, beginning with eight CAP planes spanning WWII to the present.

Faas is the former president and CEO of North American operations for Boosey and Hawkes, the famed British maker of musical instruments. Previously, he was director of marketing for Yamaha Musical Products.  He now owns a sales and consulting business based in Dallas.

Lt. Col. Faas is currently a member of Texas Wing, CAP, following a long career in CAP's Wisconsin Wing. Among CAP veteran aircraft displayed through CAPHF at Oshkosh and other major air shows were Faas' Stinson 10A and Fairchild 24. Recently, CAP selected Faas to preserve one of its last Beech T-34 Mentors for historical purposes.

CAPHF is CAP's official chartered organization for representing its history. The IRS awarded the educational foundation approved 501c3 tax-exempt status in 1998, making all contributions tax-deductible.
