Things That Go Bump On The Ramp...

United 767s Touch Wingtips At ORD

Big planes... small gates. About 380 passengers found their travel plans altered Wednesday when two 767s brushed wingtips after being pushed back from adjacent gates at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.

United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy told WBBM-780 there were no injuries onboard either plane. The planes were had just been pushed back from side-by-side gates, when one moved forward and struck the wingtip of the second just past 1530 CDT Wednesday.

United 950, heading to Dulles, had 136 passengers and 12 crew onboard; Flight 909 to Denver carried 244 passengers and 12 crew.

Both aircraft returned (we imagine carefully) to the gates, where passengers were deplaned and, with some effort, put on other flights.
