Design Work For SLN Development Project Begins

Salina Airport Authority Starts Large Aviation Service Center Project

Detailed design work has begun for a massive 10-15 year development project at the Salina Aviation Service Center to accommodate short- and long-term aerospace growth planned by the Salina Airport Authority.

The Salina Municipal Airport is home base for a wide variety of businesses and operations including: Great Lakes Aviation, LLC., CAV Aerospace, Inc., Flower Aviation, Kansas Army National Guard Aviation Support Facility, Kansas State University at Salina, Kansas Highway Patrol Aviation, and Hawker Beechcraft Corporation. The airport's FBOs annually deliver over 4 million gallons of fuel to over 7,000 business jets and 5,000 government and military aircraft earning the Airport recognition as "America's Fuel Stop."

When completed the SLN Aviation Service Center will feature new corporate hangars, air cargo facilities, office, shops and T-hangars for small aircraft storage. The project encompasses a large redevelopment area that today features 1950 era pavement, drainage, utilities and streets installed when the airport was an U. S. Air Force Strategic Air Command Base.

"This $800,000 design project is the largest professional services contract in the airport's history and includes more than 2 million square feet of hangar, shops and office space spread over 100 acres of airport land," said Tim Rogers, A.A.E., Salina Airport Authority executive director.

"The multimillion dollar development project will meet the airport's short-term and long-term needs for economic expansion and business growth," he added. The Salina Airport Authority has selected BWR Corporation for the multi-year design project for a fee of $800,785.
