'Jepps' Adds Unit to Its GPS Business
Jeppesen has tested and selected a new GPS
receiver and added it to the more than 70 GPS units that currently
work with its moving map navigational software applications, such
as FliteMap and JeppView FliteDeck.
The high performance receiver, based on SiRF Star II
architecture, tracks up to 12 satellites at a time, re-acquiring
satellite signals in fewer than 100 milliseconds and updating
position once per second. Its compact size makes it optimal for use
in applications such as aviation, marine and ground-based vehicle
navigation, plus mapping and surveying. Through differential
capability and the use of real-time RTCM corrections, the unit
offers positional accuracy to within one to five meters and is both
WAAS and EGNOS capable.
The IR-310 is ideal for airborne use. Its
USB connection supplies constant reliable power to
the receiver via a PC, tablet PC, or other handheld computing
device. The rechargeable battery is automatically recharged during
normal operation, maintaining system time and thereby reducing the
time required for system startup. Trickle-power allows the unit to
operate in sleep mode to maximize battery life. Equipped with USB,
RS-232 and TTL communications ports, it is compatible with hardware
ranging from tablet PCs to laptops to PDAs and beyond.
"The IR-310 represents a quantum leap forward. Its performance,
compact design and ability to acquire position quickly make it far
superior to the GPS receivers we previously have carried," says
Matt Ruwe, product manger, navigational software.
The IR-310 receiver is available directly from Jeppesen and
sells for $249.95.
