Fort Worth Center Announces Additional Training Enhancements
For Bell Training Ctr
A Bell 212/412 full-flight simulator at the
FlightSafety Helicopter Learning Center in Fort Worth, Texas, has
re-entered customer service certified to FAA Level "C" with a new
VITAL V-9 high-definition visual system. The addition of the
industry's most advanced visual system provides the Bell 212/412
simulator with significantly enhanced training realism.
A second flight simulator at the FlightSafety Bell Helicopter
center is also to be refitted with the VITAL V-9 visual system this
year. A Bell 222 helicopter full-flight simulator will be brought
to the forefront of training technology by the installation of the
new-generation VITAL V-9 system.
The new VITAL V-9 system produces a sharper, more
detailed scene with realworld textures through the use of samples
rather than hard-edged polygons. Using the higher capacity of new
computers, the V-9 system incorporates "anisotropic" (meaning no
uniform shape) texture sampling. This new technique treats textures
as if they are on an ellipse tilted to the angle that the surface
would be viewed by the pilotAnisotropic texture filtering
calculates the shape of this ellipse, maps it onto the required
texture, and then takes an average of the colors, from up to 32
texels (texture elements) within the ellipse, to decide what color
should be plotted onto the target surface.
The VITAL V-9 visual system and its MultiView projectors are
produced by the FlightSafety Visual Systems Division in St. Louis,
Missouri.
