CAF Bringing Traveling Theater To Oshkosh

RISE ABOVE Exhibit Honors Tuskegee Airmen And Their Crews

The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Red Tail Squadron will introduce its new educational tool, the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit, at AirVenture Oshkosh next week. You can find it near the CAF Red Tail Squadron's booth at ConocoPhillips Plaza July 25 - 31.

Doug Rozendaal, CAF Red Tail Project coordinator, will talk about the development and mission of the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit at a news conference on Monday, July 25 at 1345 CDT in the HQ Media Room.

Housed in a customized 53-foot trailer with expandable sides, a climate-controlled theater will show a short original film about the Tuskegee Airmen to a comfortably seated audience of 30 people. The film, called "RISE ABOVE," focuses on how the Airmen persevered to "rise above" all the obstacles they faced as they became America's first black military pilots.

The story of the thousands of other black Americans who served with the Airmen as their support crews is also featured. The film was created by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Adam White. The RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit will accompany the CAF Red Tail Squadron's famed P-51C Mustang, Tuskegee Airmen, as it appears at air shows across the country. RISE ABOVE will typically arrive at the venue before the airplane so it will go to schools, youth clubs and malls where young people can enjoy the experience and learn from the example of the Tuskegee Airmen. There is no admission charge.

Also, the PBS documentary Red Tail Reborn by Adam White, about the restoration of the CAF Red Tail Squadron's P-51C Mustang, is scheduled for four showings at the SkyScape Theater on the AirVenture grounds.
