Each July, Oshkosh Wisconsin becomes home to hundreds of
thousands of aviation enthusiasts from all corners of the world as
visitors flock to EAA AirVenture. Started in September of 1953, the
gathering has grown into the world’s foremost aviation event.
During the week, roughly 10,000 attending aircraft transform
Wittman Field from a quiet country airport to the world’s
busiest air traffic control center.

This year, attendance soared above expectation as 578,000 guests
either came through the main gate or flew in during the event;
every aspect of aviation was represented. Visitors celebrated both
new and old alike, from Virgin Galactic’s public unveiling of
the WhiteKnightTwo to the 60th anniversary of the T-28s. Certain
aircraft, however, made a particularly sizeable impression on
guests including the “Elvis” Skycrane, the C-130, and
the world’s largest airliner, the Airbus A380.
The bustle of attending crowds and aircraft never ceased, and
Aero-TV took the opportunity to capture EAA AirVenture 2009 in an
entirely new way. Join Aero-TV as we re-live Oshkosh through
high-definition time-lapses. Experience the excitement and activity
of EAA AirVenture 2009 in 150 seconds!
A special note: The Aero-TV crew would like to extend their
sincere appreciation for the involvement of two particular
contributors to this piece. First, Mike LoPresti tirelessly
captured much of these time-lapses, and we are tremendously
grateful for his incredible work, time, and effort.
EAA AirVenture would not have been the same without him.
Additionally, we would like to thank Canon. Without the attending
crew’s support and state-of-the-art equipment, this piece
would not have been possible. Thank you for your dedication and
your time.
